Beaches / Restaurants / After Dinner Drinks

My husband and I will be traveling to BI from Montauk with our bikes. We will be arriving on BI Wednesday 8/30. We are staying at the Spring House Hotel and were planning on spending the day at the beach and going out that night for a romantic dinner before having some drinks. Does anyone have any recommendations for any of the above.

Thanks in advance

Beaches / Restaurants / After Dinner Drinks

Probably the most romantic place to have dinner is at the Manisses in the garden. You have to make a reservation for the garden. However, you are told that it%26#39;s first come fist served. They do take down your name, however. Make sure that they know that you want to sit in the garden.It%26#39;s confusing. Last year two of us had a fantasic meal there and one of us had fish that was not cooked enough. This year, only one of the three of us had a meal that we liked.

But Block Island is not the dining mecca of the world. The Narragansett, in New Harbor, has local fish on the menu. If you go there, it might be best to order the local fish. My friends were surprised at how good it was. I had veal saltimboca and it wasn%26#39;t very good. I saw lots of people eating lobsters. It is an old inn which has not been rennovated, to my knowledge. It%26#39;s fun and funky, just like Block Island used to be.

The Atlantic has a nice dining room. But I have heard that the portions are small and the prices are high.

Finn%26#39;s, right in the parking lot where the ferry docks in Old Harbor, has great prices on lobster. And the lobster is good.

I agree with the Manisses in the garden. We have had several great meals there over the last few years.

Also, one of the most romantic meals I remember was at the Spring House outside in the garden. It was truly memorable because it was a beautiful night and it was all lit up with little white lights. Service was excellant, too.

My husband and I were in BI in July we ate at Elis and the Atlantic Inn. Elis was great but it is a small restuarant unless you make a late reservation (8:30 or so) it will probably be loud and quite possibly warm, the Atlantic Inn was wonderful-$54 for a 4 course menu with a half dozen choices per course I thought was reasonable- great quality and nice wine list. The service while we were at the Manassis was HORRIBLE the garden is quaint but I couldn%26#39;t get passed the total disorganization of the staff. The Atlantic is right behind the Spring House so you don%26#39;t have far to go. The Oar in New Harbor is great for lunch (from Montauk you will come into New Harbor) Drinks I would go right back to the Spring House the wrap around porch bar is beautiful. If you want more people or choice go down the hill into the old harbor area.
