free time in newport/goat island

I am going to a wedding on goat island in late november. We will have a little bit of free time to explore.

Any suggestions on ';must sees'; appropriate for November? I am thinking the cliff walk will be too cold...

Thanks!

Never say never when it comes to the Cliffwalk. I%26#39;ve been there a few times in late fall and early winter, and was able to spend some time out there. I was there with friends one time in January, and we were able to walk it, in fact it was warm enough for us to take our jackets off. Obviously November is not the optimum time for Cliffwalk, but it%26#39;s not unheard of that you can sometimes luck out where the ocean breezes warm it up enough to walk it in reasonable comfort. Just have to wait and see what mother nature decides that day.

And if you want to be inside, obviously the mansions would be a fine option. There are many to chose from, but you wouldn%26#39;t want to miss The Breakers, which is the most spectacular of them all. I would also recommend Marble House, and The Elms as well.

Agree with the previous poster...people walk the Cliff Walk year round....even in snow.

Additionaly, you could take a drive around Ocean Drive: www.oceandrivenewport.com

Aside from some mansions, most restuarants and shops downtown are open and if the weather is cooperating, can be nice to stroll around and browse. If you like tennis, the Tennis Hall of Fame is up on Bellevue.

check out: www.gonewport.com and keep checking their Calendar of Events.

If you are hear between Nov 15 and Jan 4th, 3 of the Newport mansions are decorated for Christmas. We went 2 years ago and it was quite nice to see the decorations. There are also special musical performances in the mansions. See the Newport Mansions web site:

Great, thanks guys! I will definitely visit a mansion or two and keep my fingers crossed for the cliff walk.
