Hey! My sis is getting married and we have begun the search for places in Newport to stay for a weekend in late June - July. There will be about 6 of us. We were thinking of an Inn or B%26amp;B type of place: something cute but still within walking distance of a nice beach and not in a crowded area. I%26#39;ve never been to R.I. so I%26#39;m a little clueless! Any suggestions??

bachelorette party!
Hi,
First of all, I%26#39;m glad you took our advice and decided on Newport. While Martha%26#39;s Vineyard is beautiful, it%26#39;s not the best place for a bachelorette party. I know all of you will love Newport! You should start off by saying how you want to arrange this lodging. Most B%26amp;B%26#39;s have one bed to a room. Are you going to put 2 girls per one room? Would you prefer looking for a suite that would accomodate 6? One thing you should know about Newport is that it%26#39;s not cheap to stay here but it%26#39;s definitely money well spent. I assume you can handle it since you wanted to go to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. I%26#39;m sure ';milemarker'; will be by who is very knowledgable when it comes to Newport. I grew up in R.I, so I know quite a bit as well. Feel free to private message me if you want to let me know how much you have per night for your lodging and I%26#39;ll give you some good places to check out based on what your looking for.
bachelorette party!
Thanks..I messaged you
Unfortunately the beaches of Newport are not really within walking distance to the downtown area. The best beach (2nd Beach) is out in Middletown but can be reached by trolley or car. There are a few hotels that are across from ';1st Beach'; but is not really the nicest of the Newport/Middletown beaches, and you%26#39;re too far out from downtown to be able to walk around there.
For lodging, as Will asked, what sort of accomodations are you looking for ? Most B%26amp;B%26#39;s will only have 1 bed per room, but Inns and Hotels will have various types.
For a quieter area, but still a short walk down into town, you could look into some of the places up on/around Bellevue Ave.
Hotel Viking

Hydrangea House

Hilltop Inn

Inn on Bellevue

Attwater Villa

Newport Blues Inn

Vanderbilt Hall

There are also some normal style hotels down in town
the Mariott, Newport Harbor Hotel, Newport Bay Club, etc. The Hyatt out on Goat Island is going through renovations now, I%26#39;m not sure when they will be done. They are still open, but the area around there is pretty dug up so I wouldn%26#39;t reccomend that right now, but if they finish by the time you are heading out, that could be an option as well.
Check out ';where to stay'; at www.gonewport.com for some more links to places own websites.
Forgot to add that if money is not a factor:

Given your time of year I would seriously book now... You find yourself sleeping in your car if you wait much longer. Again, if money is not an issue I would also go with Castle Inn or the Chandler with the Vanderbilt a close third. Have fun.
Mile marker...any suggestions on houses to rent (possibly only for the weekend?) We want to be able to walk to the downtown area, if possible.
Thanks!
You might want to start a new topic with another title, you might get a few more responses from other people that might not look under the ';bachelorette party'; title.
That being said, houses to rent in Newport are tough to come by, especially for just a weekend. Local laws do no allow for rentals less than a month. You might find something on VRBO, or craigslist, but just be aware that they are not legally allowed to rent them unless thay have an inn-keepers license. (i.e. any deposits they ask for, cancellations, refunds, etc you might have a hard time with)
What time of year are you looking at? and how many people? There are several timeshare places that have kitchens etc that might rent for a few days.
