Foxborough - Providence

My husband and I will be spending a weekend up in Foxborough. Other than the Pats (which we don%26#39;t have tickets to....) what is there to do in that area? Is Providence close enough that we can come into Providence for dinner, etc. without a long ride back after a bottle of wine? (!) Also, if so, any recommendations for a birthday dinner and what else there is to do?

ANY recommendations are really appreciated.

Thanks all!!!!

Foxborough - Providence

Downtown Providence is about a half-hour from Foxboro, and as far as I can remember, is a better destination for dinner. Providence has tons of great restaurants -- Pot au Feu is one recommendation I can make. If you come on a weekend when we have Waterfire, it would be great to have dinner and then walk around the river area. You can also book a gondola ride on the river. Check out a site like RIMonthly.com, which has dining and activities.

Foxborough - Providence

As mentioned Foxboro is about a 1/2 hour away--a straight shot on Rt. 95.

I recommend eating on Federal Hill (It%26#39;s the Atwells Ave. exit off of Rt. 95) because of the large choice of fantastic restaurants in a relatively compact area. I%26#39;ve eaten in most of the places there and ';Sienna'; is hands down my new favorite--reservations a must and the earlier you make them the better.

There is an excellent restaurant very close to Foxboro. It%26#39;s called Luciano%26#39;s in Wrentham Mass. You should definitely check it out. Not cheap, but worth it. A lot of people from Providence go there for dinner.

If you%26#39;re looking for a good bottle of wine, check out Napa Valley Grille in the Providence Place Mall. They specialize in California wines and their wine list is terrific. Not to mention the food is terrific!

I also like Napa Valley Grill.

There is a great little BYOB restaurant in Federal Hill, but not on the main street. It is called Casa Christine%26#39;s on Spruce St. Fantastic veal dishes. Veal francais is out of this world. And last time I had Veal Erica (???) The best thing I ever ate. Even if it%26#39;s not on the list of specials if you ask they will usually make it for you. And my friend loves their pasta dishes.

I live in Foxboro and go to Providence often. In the Foxboro area Luciano%26#39;s is indeed wonderful (right near the Stadium) However Luciano%26#39;s other restaurant is even better. It is called The Colonel Blackington Inn. it is located in Attleboro MA just minutes away from Foxboro. If you are coming while it is still warm the outdoor patio is lovely. It is beautiful indoors as well. A great example of a New England Inn but without the ';oldness'; or stuffiness. In Providence Federal Hill is the area (Atwells Ave.) if you are looking for Italian. Again, if it is still warm out there are restaurants with oudoor seating - some surround a square with a huge fountain in the middle - you%26#39;ll think you are in Italy! Downtown our favorites include Cafe Nuovo (on the river and great during water fire!). Check out the website for menu. Parkside is a nice french bistro, Hemingway%26#39;s is nice for fish, and across town there is a neat restaurant we recently tried called Pearl. When you pull up outside you may not be too sure but trust us it is great. The entirely blue interior is like being underwater. Great atmosphere is inhanced by great food. Really different kind of place. Go to the website, it can descibe it alot better than me.

We%26#39;re doing a similar thing, but on ';game day';. If we miss the train to Foxboro from Providence (it only goes once right?), anyone got any ideas about the way way to get there? Cab? Bus?

Double check the train schedule (I assume it%26#39;s Amtrak you%26#39;re referring to); the trains run pretty regularly. A cab ride might be somewhat expensive. There are busses that run between Foxboro and Providence; you might want to check on that to determine the times and specific drop-off locations. It%26#39;s Peter Pan/Bonanza bus lines. I%26#39;d also check with the stadium people; they may be able to give you more specific information transportation. See www.gillettestadium.com.

I live in Foxboro...read the various replies. I suggest the Colonel Blackington Inn..besides outstanding meals...offers overnight Inn accomodations. Luciano%26#39;s is also good. Providence...I%26#39;d go along with Federal Hill recommendations. There are also several little theaters if you want to take in a play: Orpheum in Foxboro, MMAS in Mansfield MA. Fiddlehead in Norwood which isn%26#39;t too far away. Also can get tickets to Revolution soccer game if you like soccer. Also practice games for Patriots are going on right now. When are you coming? Suggest picking up the Foxboro Reporter and seewhat%26#39;s going on in the area. (I work for the paper)

Have fun...also good train transportation from Mansfield...parking is fine on a weekend...weekdays no
