Parking near Newport Marriott

I will be staying at the Newport Marriott at the end of August and am trying to avoid the $20/day parking fee. Any suggestions on cheaper parking options near the Marriott (I%26#39;m not oposed to walking a bit)? I will need to leave the car overnight.

Unfortunately, that part of town does not have much in the way of free parking. Your best bet would be to find a resident parking spot near the hotel (The Point section would be your closest bet) that is NOT 24 hours but from 9:00pm to 8:00 am or something like that. At 9:00pm you could try and find a meter and park overnight. until they start up again in the morning, and do the same thing all over again.

There are free parking areas (no permit required) in some of the residential areas, but they%26#39;d be a little bit of a walk from the hotel.

How long are you staying? If it%26#39;s just 1 night, you might be able to park at the Visitor%26#39;s Center (next door to the Mariott) and if you use the RIPTA Trolley, you can get a validated ticket and only pay $2.00 to park....I%26#39;m not sure though if it is good for overnight parking or not, you%26#39;d have to ask.

Here%26#39;s a link to map recommended by the Visitor Center for nearby parking:

Check out the last map.

As far as parking on the street be careful because many areas require a resident parking or you will face parking ticket for overnight parking. Or at least the areas we stayed in seemed only to have this type of parking at night so we always opted for B%26amp;Bs that included the parking.

Milemarker%26#39;s info is always spot-on. It has been my experience that parking in Newport is not all that troublesome. If you grew up in an urban center -- like NY -- you will find that it is a piece of cake.

I highly recommend that you try Washington Street. Please don%26#39;t take my spot.

I just want to confirm what Milemarker0 said about residential parking. Keep your eyes open for signs on the streets. Here in the Point section (just north of the Marriott) parking is by permit only from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and they do love to give out tickets. Besides the Gateway Center parking next to the Marriott, Long Wharf also has parking, but I am not sure about the overnight charges.
