We%26#39;re taking Ferry (probably fast one, 30mins) for the first time ever - to Block Island, but we%26#39;re not taking the car.
What can we do within walking distance of the ferry?
Are there shops or places to eat fish %26amp; chips outside within walking distance? or would it be a wasted trip.
Thank you!!!
Block Island with NO car? Things to Walk To? FIRST TIMER
We just spent a week on Block Island and forget about without a car ... we did it without any form of transportation ... with a two year old!
First of all, most visitors to BI rent bikes to tour the Island. Relatively few bring cars. The Island is very bikeable and that%26#39;s considered the standard way to get around. You can also rent mopeds, motorized scooters, but the Islanders HATE the mopeds and they%26#39;ll treat you less pleasantly than if you arrive on a bike.
But even if you are just walking, there%26#39;s plenty to do. The entire %26#39;town%26#39; is right by the ferry dock, so that%26#39;s pretty much 80% of all the shopping and eating on the island. New Harbor, the other small %26#39;town%26#39; is only a mile away. A fifteen minute walk up a hill puts you clear out of town on a beautiful bluff overlooking the sea. There are two beaches right in town (Ballards, nasty, and Baby Beach by the Surf Hotel, nicer) but a 15 minute walk brings you up to State Beach, which has a big pavilion with showers, concessions, rental chairs and everything.
Really, it%26#39;s a walking/biking island. No cars required.
