What are the best ways to get from Manhattan to Newport without a car on a Sunday in early May?The quick bus service run by adventure north east doesn`t start up till end of May and there appears to be no public bus service on a Sunday from Kingston Railway station to Newport.
New York to Newport
Your only option would be to hire a cab or car service.
New York to Newport
I%26#39;ll bet Peter Pan Bus can get you there.

wooops, meant to say the cab or car servicee option was from the Kingston train Station....you could also go to the Providence train station and take a RIPTA bus from there.
or as Will mations, Peter Pan Bus from NYC.
I would stay with the idea of taking Amtrac from Penn to the Kingston station then calling one of three taxi services for a 25 min ride to Newport. Expect to pay $35 each way. No shuttles that I am aware of.
Orange Cab 401-841-0030
Cozy Cab 401-846-2500
Newport taxi 401-662-1407
Orange cab just started operating their service so you might find they offer a good deal. Cozy is the largest but often most expensive.
Have fun!
Thanks everyone for your help. I think |I will get the train to Kingston and cab from there.
You know... there is a4th option that no one has mentioned yet (LOL)... You could take a Casino bus from Chinatown to Foxwoods for about $12.00 then hire a limo for the remaining 45 miles..... Hey.. I am sure it will be something to tell the grand kids about someday...
One can also take either Amtrak or the Peter Pan Bus to Providence, (Amtrak is 1/2 hour faster but usually twice as expensive), and then take the ferry to Newport.
http://www.ripta.com/schedules/ferry.php ($9. one way)
The bus from Providence-Newport is $1.50.
One more note: DON%26#39;T take Peter Pan all the way from NYC-Newport. That bus stops in Fall River, and there%26#39;s always a wait.
Taking the local RIPTA bus from Providence is always faster.
