Dog friendly Newport?

Hi All:

My husband %26amp; I will be in Newport for a weekend in early August. We will bring our 17 pound Boston Terrier. Can anyone recommend a few areas good for walks with our pup, as well as a few restaurants with outdoor seating that would allow us to dine with her?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Well, in town Kings Park overlooking the harbor would be best, and you could park there. THere are some other smaller parks in town. Or you could go to the beaches after hours. There is also a enclosed dog ';run'; near the Npt Bridge when you arrive in town. Newport isn%26#39;t stuffy so I%26#39;m sure it won%26#39;t be too hard- but some of the more mainstream restaurants migh not allow it.

The Cliff Walk allows dogs as well, just make sure they%26#39;re leashed and you pick up after them....O%26#39;Brien%26#39;s on Thames allows dogs out on their patio. You%26#39;ll encounter lots of other dogs as you walk along the wharfs and Thames Street....there are many parks around town as well...I think only the schools don%26#39;t allow them on the grounds.

We used to take our very large dogs to Newport with us (Irish wolfhounds) and never had a problem, except for people who loved to stop and pat them. Very dog-friendly town (just be sure to clean up after your girl.) Two have even marched in the St. Paddy%26#39;s Day parade there. We walked Nora up til last year at the park at Bretton Point (on Ocean Drive). Lots of bunnies, and that interesting tower at the end of it. She%26#39;d be on a leash unless it was off-season and no one was there, but now her age has made travel/long walks more difficult. The Cook house had allowed our previous wolfhound outside (she was much more laid back) at their cafe tables but I%26#39;m not sure of current policy. The beaches have become very strict, thanks to a skirmish between a dog owner and a dog hater a few years ago...
