Scenic Route

Hi

After flying into Boston, we are driving to Portsmouth for a one night stay. In the morning we will drive down to Newport and after a few hours head to Cape Cod. Can you please tell me if this will be a scenic route. Many thanks

Scenic Route

The first part of the drive down to Newport is not very scenic...just highway, a few glimpses of water as you get to the end of Route 24 in RI. After that, the more scenic ride to Newport would be via Rt. 138 instead of Rt 114. You%26#39;ll pass farmland stone walls etc...that part of the trip is only about 20 minutes though.

You can take the same way bak to go to Cape Cod....then you can either take Rt 195 to 25 to the bridges, not scenic at all...just highway...or you can take Rt. 6 which is a back country road (that parallels RT 195 for most of the time) through most of Fall River, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Marion etc....all the way onto the Cape. If you wanted a little glimpse of scenic roads, you could take 195 until Fairhaven, get off the highway and take Rt. 6 for a bit.
