Hey everyone, I was wondering how crowded the mansions were during the July 4th week? My mom%26#39;s coming out for a vacation the July 4th week and the wife and I were going to take her on Wednesday, July 2nd. I realize it%26#39;s summer vacation and it won%26#39;t be empty, but I was just trying to gauge how crowded it would be. I%26#39;ve been to the mansions only once, and it wasn%26#39;t during that week so I have nothing to judge it on.
Thanks a bunch
The mansions during the July 4th week
I see you have posted this question yesterday and haven%26#39;t gotten an answer. Although I haven%26#39;t been to Newport specifically the week of 4th of July I%26#39;ve been on many trips June to October. Definitely things will be more crowded in July and August or when special events (Jazz Festival, etc) are being held or most weekends. I would think though that it wouldn%26#39;t be any different that week than a regular summer week day (less crowds than weekends).
If you want to avoid crowds skip going to the Breakers. The Breakers often has line to get in that grows as the day wears on. Try to pick a less visited mansion. They all have their own fascinating histories and personalities. The Elms has nice gardens behind it that are pleasant to walk around. I think that Breakers, Marble House, RoseCliff are the ones with the most crowds.
The mansions during the July 4th week
Thanks sedum37 for your post. I%26#39;ve talked to my wife, and what we%26#39;re going to do is to head to the Breakers first, and then we can go from there. My guess is that%26#39;s the best way to do it...just get it out of the way first. I was pretty much certain that the week is going to be busy just because it is July 4th week, but I was just trying to get an idea.
I have not gone to the Mansions during the July 4th weekend but I have been in Newport for this week before. My feeling was that it is not ridiculously crowded like you might imagine. We have not had a problem finding parking and the beaches weren%26#39;t that much more crowded than usual. Hopefully you will find the same to be true for the mansions!!
Well, I wound up going to the Mansions on Thursday and was surprised to find that it wasn%26#39;t as crowded as I thought it was going to be. We, being me, my wife, mom, and a friend, got to the transportation center just before it openned. When it openned, we bought our tickets (we bought the 5 mansion tour) and then headed straight to the Breakers for a tour, which wound up being the first tour. We were pleasently surprised to find that we were able to get to 4 mansions that day before we had lunch at 2:30 pm. Unfortunately we had to head back so we weren%26#39;t able to do the 5th mansion, but we still have the tickets and will head back at some point. Just thought I%26#39;d give everyone an update.
Wow you were ambitious trying to go to 5 mansions! The first time I went to the mansions, I tried to do 3 in one day and the last one was all a blur after seeing so much opulence. THis past year, I went at Christmas time to the mansions all decorated and bought the 3 ticket tour. We only ended up seeing 2 mansions but the lady did say we could use the 3rd ticket anytime and that it didn%26#39;t expire. So good reminder that you can use the tickets at a later visit.
