Hi,
We%26#39;re from NJ and we%26#39;re headed to Cape Cod the first Saturday in August. I thought it might be nice to take a rest stop in Providence for breakfast or lunch. I%26#39;ve never been to Providence before, and figured it would break up our 8 hour drive and also give us another town to see.
Any suggestions on places to stop for a nice meal that aren%26#39;t too hard to get too from the highway?
Quick stop in ProvidencePlenty of places right off the highway- lots of construction going on though. Federal Hill is right of the highway as is the East Side, you could start at the hill drive through downtown and go to East Side in a matter of minutes.
Quick stop in ProvidenceCheck-out Hotel Dolce Villa on Federal Hill! Unbelievable restuarants right ou the front door.
Assuming you%26#39;re coming up from Rt 95, you can take the Atwell%26#39;s Ave exit and go over the highway to Federal Hill (although you%26#39;d have to have someone else to confirm the name of the exit ramp from that direction as I always come from the Boston area.) As reported, Federal Hill has a ton of great places. The other option is to take one more exit up, Exit 22 I think for the Downtown area and head for the Providence Place Mall which borders Rt 95. There are a number of very decent restaurants that run along the outside of the Mall although you might want to plan to park in the horrible Mall garage rather than try to find non-existant street parking. My favorite is Fire and Ice alongside the Mall which has wonderful healthy food, very unique atmosphere, excellent bargain for the $$. Another is the Napa Grille close to Fire and Ice.
Be aware though that these exits are ABOVE the Rt 195 to Cape Cod exit so when you head back for the highway you have to either turn around and head South on 95 for an exit or two to the 195 Split OR get someone downtown to point you towards the streets that border the canal which will have Rt 195 exit signs. Things are a bit crazy with all the construction in exactly that area but with luck, you should be ok.
