Getaway between Boston and NYC

hello all --

My husband and I are picking up a child at camp in NYC -- and are trying to make the most of our two nights/three days without child.

We fly into Manchester NH and can go ANYWHERE (!!) .... anyone have an idea of a great romantic getaway somewhere between Manchester and NYC? We love b%26amp;b%26#39;s (small, charming with excellent breakfasts), the ocean and history. My husband is a huge history buff -an English teacher who has a penchant for early American history and the presidents.

Any and all ideas welcomed! We%26#39;re from TN and not sure of distances ... but I thought somewhere in RI might work.

For more historical stuff there%26#39;s Providence and other RI towns, but Newport in the summer would be perfect.

About 3 - 3 1/2 hours depending on traffic to NYC.

Just curious, are you spending anytime in Boston? Are you flying Southwest into Manchester if so, you could look into flying into Providence instead.

Thanks for the suggestion! I had thought about Newport -- I went there once, briefly, 20-some years ago and was enchanted. I just didn%26#39;t know it was too crowded in the summer ...

Have any recommendations on neat b%26amp;bs%26#39;s?

There are so many B%26amp;B%26#39;s so I haven%26#39;t really been in too many, but a lot of people like the Francis Malbone House, Newport Blues Inn, Hilltop Inn, Spring Street Inn, Artful Lodger, Hydrangea House.

Do a search for B%26amp;B%26#39;s in the Newport Forum and you%26#39;ll see lots of reviews. Also use the link I put in above and in the ';Where to Stay'; section, you can do a review for B%26amp;B%26#39;s.

What sort of budget and accomodations are you looking for? Are you looking at weekend or mid-week rates?

Ocean and history, I guess Newport would do it. If you like early American history the Redwood Library in Newport has some neat stuff.

One more. Don%26#39;t know when you would be here but, the Rose Island Lighthouse in Newport harbor rents out -it%26#39;s something different. You would have the little island to yourself for the night.
