Newport in January?

Hi, my husband%26#39;s b-day is in January and I wanted to take him someplace not too far away. We live in NYC. Is Newport a good place to go in the winter? I imagine it would be quite a bit slower, but that%26#39;s ok. Just wanted to know if there are still things to do at that time of year. Can anyone recommend anything fun? We%26#39;re not into bars. Thanks!

Newport in January?

Not sure about Newport in the dead of winter. For myself, I think of it as a 3 season destination. I know there%26#39;s a few mansions that still offer winter tours such as the Breakers and Marble House, but the rest reopen in the Spring. Most of the shops and restaurants stay open year round so that wouldn%26#39;t be a problem. I%26#39;m just not sure there would be enough indoor activities to keep you busy.

Thanks, that%26#39;s kinda what I thought. Thinking about maybe going to DC instead. Little longer drive, but don%26#39;t want him to be bored.

If you could wait until Feb, there is the Winter Festival:

How about taking the train to Boston? Museums, theater, Freedom Trail sites (weather permitting)...
