We plan to be in Newport for several days in mid-November. Since the weather may be cold, we%26#39;d like walking distance to whatever is open in town, plus a water view from the room. My husband prefers modern hotels, so we are considering Newport Hyatt, Marriott, or Newport Harbor Hotel, so if anyone can give us insight to these or others that fit our needs, we%26#39;d appreciate it! Also, will we find restaurants still open in November?
Thanks!

Hotel for Mid-NovemberNewport Harbor Hotel is within walking distance to everything in town. The Hyatt, which was recently renovated, is out on goat island, about a 15 minute walk to town. They do have a shuttle though.
None of those hotels are within normal walking distance to the Mansions though. By mid-November, parking isn;t really a problem, so you could drive to the Mansions or anywhere downtown really. The trolleys also head out to the mansions.
The Mariott is also right downtown within walking distance and has some harbor view rooms.
The Newport BAy Club and some of the Windham properties also have some rooms with water views.
Hotel for Mid-NovemberOf the three you listed, I%26#39;d say the Newport Harbor Hotel is in the best location, with the Marriott second. The NHH is right on the water and about as central as you can be, right in the heart of the Downtown/Thames St area. From what I%26#39;ve heard, I believe that they have more harbor view rooms than the Marriott does if you%26#39;ve got your heart set on that.
As far as restaurants are concerned, most if not all of them should be open. My wife and I went to Newport once in Feb. and were surprised to see pretty much business as usual everywhere, so that shouldn%26#39;t be a problem for you. Enjoy!!
