Providence to NYC by rail

We will be in Providence for Thanksgiving week. We have reservations in NYC for the Wed. and Thurs. night. We would like to go in early Wednesday and stay until late Friday. How do we do this via rail? The schedule I have been able to locate giving the return times from Penn Station to Providence leaves early afternoon from NYC. Any ideas on how to stay longer in the city?

There%26#39;s a 5:40p and a 7:30p NE Regional that leaves on Friday back to PVD.

Rail is not the best way to get to/from New York. It%26#39;s mega expensive and not all that convenient. You could drive to New Haven, CT or some point on the CT mass transit lines (Shore Line East) to New York. Providence is a two hour drive to New Haven. Since you%26#39;re going into the city on a Wednesday, it might be easier to drive. My dad and I drove in on a Wednesday in February and we arrived around noon with very little traffic and left the same evening at 8 and got home 3 hours later.
