My wife and I are planning to eat at this restaurant for the first time when we%26#39;re in Newport next month. I%26#39;ve read the reviews here, and they seem to be mostly positive. Any place that makes it%26#39;s own pasta will most certainly grab my attention, so I%26#39;m really looking forward to sampling some for myself!
Anyway, I was just wondering how casual this place is or isn%26#39;t. I can%26#39;t get a really good sense of that by the reviews, and was hoping that someone ( Milemarker? ) can tell me a little more about that, as well as any other feedback about the place you%26#39;d care to add. When in Newport, my wife and I are in total relax mode, which for me means I live in jeans. Just wondering if that would be appropriate there, or should I dress up a little more. Thanks in advance!
Puerini's RestaurantI think Peurini%26#39;s is pretty good, but I haven%26#39;t been in a long time. They have expanded in recent years and I%26#39;m not sure what the new ambiance is like- but I would think jeans and a decent shirt would be just fine.
However- I don%26#39;t think Peurini%26#39;s is as good as Paul%26#39;s Pasta in Groton, CT---that place is the best.
Puerini's RestaurantYes, jeans and a decent shirt are fine some people might get more dressed up though, but you don%26#39;t have to, it%26#39;s a pretty casual place.
Bit smaller than Sardella%26#39;s next door, but has a nice outdoor seating area if the weather is nice. Otherwise it%26#39;s a series of smaller rooms inside. Wednesday Nights they offer BYOB, but they still have their own bar too. (Beer and wine only)
I%26#39;m not really an Italian Food expert, but I%26#39;ve always had a good meal there. A little more quiet and cozier than say, Sardella%26#39;s next door if you%26#39;ve been there. A lot of people that like Italian Food also like Mama Luisa%26#39;s down on Thames.
Thanks to both of you! I love Italian food, so I%26#39;m really looking forward to dining there. I hope it%26#39;s as good as I anticipate it to be.
Oh, just one last thing. We%26#39;ll be going there on either a Wednesday, or Thursday night, ( Oct. 15th or 16th ) and I was wondering if it would be adviseable to make reservations. I%26#39;m thinking we probably don%26#39;t need them, but better safe than sorry IMO. Thanks!
I%26#39;ve been to both places. Probably the last time about 2 years ago so may be a little outdated. Sardellas I think has a nicer atmosphere (especially if the outside area is available but since you are coming in October this may not be for you. There are heaters on the patio but probably too cold for that time of year). I%26#39;ve sat in Sardellas inside rooms also and around Christmas time one year they had a nice fire going in the fireplace that was quite warming and welcoming nearby to our table. I think the rooms in the front part of the restaurant are nicer.
Puerini%26#39;s has more casual atmosphere and the tables are closer together. And it was a little loud the time we went last. Of course it was the height of the summer tourist season on a Saturday night so this may have had something to do with it. I would say that the food at both places is of similar quality.
During the week you might get away without a reservation and you could pop your head into both and see which atmosphere (or menu) appealed to you.
My wife and I have literally walked by both these restaurants several dozen times at least, and would always say that we would like to try them, but just never got around to it. We finally committed ourselves to try one this time out, and the homemade pasta at Puerini%26#39;s tipped the scale for this trip. And Milemarker%26#39;s description of it being a bit more quiet, and cozier than Sardella%26#39;s sealed it for us. At least it should be quieter midweek in mid October than when you were there.........hope so anyway. We will most likely try Sardella%26#39;s when we go back next year in either the spring or summer. And thanks for confirming what I thought about the need for reservations.
You%26#39;ll have a good time which ever you decide. If you have time pop your head into St. Mary%26#39;s Church just down the hill from both restaurants (or take photos from outside). This is the church JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy were married at. The one thing I am not sure when it is open to the public. Before and after Masses it is definitely open but not sure during other times.
Again, we%26#39;ve walked by that church more times than I can count, but never thought of going inside. Maybe we will this time on our way to Puerini%26#39;s. Just counting the days until we get to Newport. It%26#39;s one of the few places we go where we truly relax...........and eat well. :=)
My husband and I went to Peurini%26#39;s last Saturday. We thought it was just ok. The salad we split had lots of raw garlic which was overpowering. The dinners were good but they brought me the wrong thing so by the time I got my dinner, my husband was done. Not quite the romantic anniversary dinner we had planned. Hope you have better luck.
Thanks for the info Raindrop! These things happen in all restaurants at times, but I%26#39;m sorry it happened to you, especially on your anniversary. I hope we have better luck too. Fingers are crossed.
