Can anybody please recommend us some 3-5 star hotels or service apartments nearby, preferably within walking distance to, Brown university for us to stay this summer? Around 10-15 minutes by car wouldn%26#39;t be too bad either.
Thanks.
Accomodations Near Brown University
There are numerous downtown hotels: Westin, Biltmore, Hilton, The Hotel Providence, Marriott, Courtyard Marriott among others. All are within a long walk to Brown or very quick cab ride (I%26#39;d guess less than $5). There are probably also Inns and B%26amp;Bs around Brown itself.
Accomodations Near Brown University
There aren%26#39;t any hotel accomodations on the East Side, where Brown is. I think there are some B%26amp;Bs though. There are numerous hotels and some B%26amp;Bs in downtown Providence. You can stay downtown and take the RIPTA bus or trolley or walk over the Thayer Street tunnel and arrive a few blocks from Brown. It%26#39;s not a bad walk, but it is uphill. I advise taking a trolley because they run more frequently than the buses. A friend stayed at the Mowry Nicholson House B%26amp;B on Smith Hill. It%26#39;s not a nice area but the B%26amp;B was set back from the main road and was very clean and quiet and nice inside. It%26#39;s walking distance from the Providence Place Mall and a bus runs down Smith St. to the Kennedy Plaza bus terminal where you can catch a bus or trolley to Brown. The bus costs $1.50 each trip, currently, though fare is going up. Transfers cost 10 cents extra and 10 ride tickets or a 15 ride pass are available at the Kennedy Plaza terminal.
FYI, in RI a 15 minute drive is ';far away.'; You could stay in Warwick and be 15 minutes from downtown, if you have a car. I wouldn%26#39;t advise driving around Brown though. Parking is hard to come by. It%26#39;s easier in the summer but far better to walk.
Thanks guys, for all your input, very helpful. I will keep them in mind when I do my research and hotel booking.
Just got back from visiting Brown this past week. Stayed at the Westin. It was a quick cab ride but in the summer it would be a nice walk-maybe 10 minutes. Parking around Brown seemed tight so it might be better not to drive yourself. It was too cold and rainy to walk last week!! The Westin was nice-probably a four star hotel. It is attached to a mall where you can find whatever you might need. The hotel was clean and quiet. I have posted a review of it. Have fun. We liked Brown and thought it was very nice.
The Westin would be one of the best hotels to stay at and the closest one to Brown.......7 tenths of a mile by car, so a 10 minute walk at most. Hard to park, wear your sneakers. Brown is not all in one building and is spread out all over the hill. Great restaurants in Providence, especially Italian food. Ask for Directions to Federal Hill. Rhode Islanders know how to make excellent pizza too.......so good, miss it so much.

You can take the Green Line Trolley from downtown to Federal Hill where you will find the finest Italian restaurants in the area. Be sure to taste gelato, Italian ice cream, it%26#39;s the best outside of Italy.
If you want to try something really local, grab a bite at Haven Bros. Diner. It%26#39;s a mobile diner that%26#39;s been around for over 100 years - the first ever diner. It arrives next to City Hall around 5 PM.
You get the best food on Federal Hill and there is also a great little hotel called Dolce Villa. It is a short drive or trolly ride . Check it out!
Thanks everyone! Westin sounds great and I can hardly wait to try Providence%26#39;s Italian food. We love Italian Food. Are they into Thai/Indian/Japanese food over there too?
I will check out Dolce Villa and sites from QNPoohBear. Thank you.
If you like Thai food, my parents LOVE Apsara
