was thinking of driving from NJ to newport just for the day...too expensive for hotels.
where can i park to explore the town? beaches? walk to see some mansions (not pay for inside tours)? etc?
labor day weekend sunday
can i park free at the breakers to check out the outside without paying to do the inside tour..and leave me car there to do the cliff walk?
labor day weekend sunday
You can%26#39;t park in The Breakers parking lot if you%26#39;re not taking a tour there. There%26#39;s usually a guard there ( at least when I was there ) to make sure only paying customers use the lot. However, there are alternatives.
I%26#39;m fairly certain that there are a limited number of free public parking spaces at The 40 Steps, which is at the far end of Narraganset Ave. The steps lead down to the Cliff Walk.
I%26#39;ve also parked along the streets at Salve Regina University, and never had any problems. The University is right near The Breakers, and it%26#39;s a beautiful place to walk around.
thanks!
if we only want to do a short part of the cliff walk any recommendations for where to start, end, and park?
also...where to park to hang out at the beach for an hour or so?
I%26#39;m not really a beach person, so I can%26#39;t really help you with that, but I know there are others here who can.
As far as Cliff Walk is concerned, I would stick to parking in the areas that I previously suggested. I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s much parking further on down Cliff Walk since it goes mostly behind mansions, and private homes the further you go. I would use The Breakers/Salve Regina area as your home base, and go on from there IMO. Have fun!
I%26#39;ve done day trips to NJ/NYC, so I%26#39;d think coming to Npt is even easier. Drive down Bellevue Ave and Ocean Drive to see the sights. Second Beach (Sachuest) in Middletown is nicer and parking there is free after 4 pm, otherwise it%26#39;s 20. on Sundays.
thanks for all the help!
