We have never been to Block Island and thought about giving it a try this weekend. We have been to Nantucket many times and was wondering what the island is like...beaches, restaurants, towns, accessible by bike? Would love your feedback :)

Block Island....is it like Nantucket? Please describe :)Block Island really seems very different than Nantucket.
While I thought Nantucket town was stunningly beautiful, the scenery of Block Island was much more dramatic. Monhegan Bluffs are incredible, farms, and rolling hills (a good work-out on a bike).
Nantucket seemed more upscale, and I must admit the traffic on the island seemed pretty typical to Massachusetts.
Block Island seems more laid back, less touristy.
I really would like to hear other opinions on this as I admit don%26#39;t know Nantucket all that well.
Block Island....is it like Nantucket? Please describe :)As long as the weather is nice, a trip to B.I. is well worth the trip. If you go once, you%26#39;ll definitely be going back. Agree that it%26#39;s more dramatic than Nantucket but both have many similarities. B.I. is smaller areawise compared to Nantucket. New Shoreham is the only town on B.I. Beaches are nice and varied from sandy to rocky. Old Harbor area is loaded with excellent restaurants. Bike or moped is definitely the way to get around.
Hi--Block Island is much smaller than Nantucket, and less commercial. It still retains much of the charm that it had many years ago. Biking is definitely a great way to see the Island. You can bike around the perimeter of the island in a few hours. On weekends, however, you do have to be careful about the traffic. There is a great beach to see at the Mohegan Bluffs. You walk down a hundred stairs or more and the beach is in front of you and the cliffs are behind you. There are also a long stretches of beaches on Corn Neck Rd. The most popular is the State Beach. It has a few amenities including beach chair and umbrella rentals, a food stand, and rest rooms. Farther down the road there is Mansion Beach. And if you continue all the way down to the end of Corn Neck Rd. you will come to a lighthouse. This year there is a guy with a small hot dog stand there.
There is another beach called Ballard%26#39;s Beach which is right by the ferry. I think that you have to go through Ballards restaurant to go there.
Probably the best places to eat lunch are at the Spring House (on Spring St. on the way to Mohegan Bluffs) and the Oar (in New Harbor on the other side of the island). Finn%26#39;s is good if you want a lobster for dinner. It%26#39;s by the ferry in Old Harbor.
If you are looking for a place to stay, try the Sea Breeze. It%26#39;s on Spring St. across from the Spring House. Have fun!
