Narragansett vs. Newport

Hello-

I%26#39;m thinking about going to Rhode Island the first week of Sept. I have never been there. I love the beach and I%26#39;m not sure if I should stay at a b%26amp;b in Narragansett(walking distance to beach) or in Newport at a b%26amp;b. Is Newport within walking distance to a beach? I have looked at the map and it doesn%26#39;t look like it, but some b%26amp;bs say they are. How is the beach water the first week of September. Is it cold? Any suggestions or tips are really appreciated.

Thanks!

Narragansett vs. Newport

I think Early Sept is great in Rhode Island. If you want mostly beach activities, I vote for Narragansett. You can still visit Newport at night or a non beach (cloudy) day.

The first week of Sept. the water temp will be comfortable.

If you want more shopping, sightseeing and less beach days the Newport.

They are only about 1/2 hour apart, depending on traffic, so you really can have the best of both.

Have fun!

Narragansett vs. Newport

Narragansett is a nice area, nice beach.

The beach in Newport that is in walking distance(Easton%26#39;s), unfortunatly often has a seaweed problem. The other beach (Sachuest) is a 10 min drive from Newport. In my opinion it has nicer sand than Narragansett Beach, more pink, less gray (both have big waves). The first week of Sept is usually really nice, air water temp probably not too different than NY area if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re used to. After a few days of clouds though it can cool off a bit.

For nightlife, definitly head to Npt.

Hi, Just got back from Rhode Island. Narragansett town beach is much nicer than Easton%26#39;s Beach in Newport. Easton%26#39;s Beach has always had a red seaweed problem and 3/4 of the beach was closed for swimming 8/13 due to bacteria from the seaweed. Narragansett is big, wide and clean with nice waves and clear water.

Not to cause alarm, but I recently came back from Newport. We had thought about going to Easton%26#39;s Beach, but my sister went there the day before we arrived and told us not to bother. The water was packed with jellyfish.

I do not consider Newport a ';beach town.'; It is a sailing town for sure, and a party town you betcha.

Better beaches in other parts of R.I. or an hour more away on Cape Cod.

Skip Easton%26#39;s Beach entirely if you are in Newport. Go to Gooseberry Beach (in Newport) or 2nd Beach (in Middletown).

Easton%26#39;s beach is nice for sunbathing and walking, but not swimming....too often crowded with seaweed and, apparently now, jelly fish.

Is there a beach in newport that has a bar and young crowd? I know the narragansett beach may be nicer but they don%26#39;t have any bars

Technically over the line in Middletown,

Just went to Second Beach and the water was crystal clear and still pretty warm. Easton%26#39;s is probably better now too.
