We will be doing a Boston/Providence trip in early April 09.
We%26#39;ll be taking Amtrack to Providence and staying three nights. .I%26#39;ve narrowed it down to the Courtyard Marriott or the Renaissance. The price difference is only $20-Renaissance looks nicer but the Courtyard has a pool and the location looks better. . any suggestions?
One day will be taken up looking at schools-any suggestions for the other two days? Is it worth renting a car and checking out Newport or any other surrounding area? What is there to do? Would love any thoughts anyone has-we%26#39;ve never been to RI and unless someone decides to go to school there someday-we probably won%26#39;t have the occasion to return!
Thanks from San Francisco!
Suggestions for Providence trip??
Sure it would be worth it to check out Newport, most visitors to RI do- it%26#39;s about 30 to 40 min. from Prov. Narragansett Bay is very beautiful, although early April still no leaves on the trees. Newport is an international destination with much important Colonial history- mansions, Cliff Walk, nature, yachts, shopping, etc.
Suggestions for Providence trip??Hi there,
The Courtyard and Renaissance are both right downtown. The Renaissance is up a hill, so if you have problems walking, it might not be a good idea to stay there. Here are some links you can check out about RI

The weather can be iffy in early April - snow, rain or sun is possible. It%26#39;s very worth it to check out Newport if the weather isn%26#39;t too bad. Boston is only an hour away and accessible by train and New York is 3 1/2 hours away.
Thank you for the nice suggestions and the detail!
We appreciate it!
